A spill occurred in Alaska in 2006 just after BP was warned of a corroded pipeline. BP pleaded guilty to both of these incidents. In these past few years BP has paid $485 million in fines and settlements charges to the U.S. government for environmental crimes, neglect of worker safety rules and penalties for manipulating energy markets.
